Righteous Kill
Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. I mean, really, what else do you need? Righteous Kill features these Hollywood Oscar winners as New York detectives hunting a calculating serial killer. Although this movie's plot is a very average cop-thriller type of release, seeing Pacino and DeNiro in classic roles is a delight. These two play perfectly off each other, complimenting each other's styles and acting as if they were not acting. As partners, DeNiro is the hot-headed, impetuous type and Pacino balances him out as the suaver, calmer partner.
As the flick opens, we see a videotaped confession of the serial killer divulging his crimes. Viewers are so focused on how the story unravels, the twists in the plot do actually surprise the audience. The victims are scumbags, the city's dirtiest thugs, the kind that any cop would kill to see off the streets (think Boondock Saints style). Pacino (Rooster) and DeNiro (Turk) fight to bring their man to justice and we see some action and get some classic tough guy lines from our hard-nosed heroes. The rest of the film lacks some plot punch but the acting makes up for it.
Supporting our main characters are 50 Cent, playing a very believable club owner/drug dealer, Brian Dennehey as the Lieutenant, and Carla Gugino depicting DeNiro's love interest who happens to also be on the force. Also supporting are John Leguizamo and Donnie Wahlberg as less decorated detectives working on the case, but adding some value to the feature.
Go see this movie, if nothing else out of respect for DeNiro and Pacino.
